THINGS THAT OUR WILDEST DREAMS COULDN’T IMAGINE COME TO LIFE ON A SCREEN IN A MOVIE THEATRE. EXPLOSIONS, MAGIC, AND FLYING ARE ONLY A SMALL PART OF THE EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF VISUAL EFFECTS IN MOVIES. BRING YOUR POPCORN—THIS ART FORM HAS MUCH MORE TO OFFER.
VFX (Visual Effects) is the process by which live-action footage and CGI elements combine to form realistic imagery. Take a look at these examples in movies:

BUT WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

BUT WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? ____
Even before movies had color, directors were coming up with innovative methods to create more exciting scenes. Painters would be called in to develop backgrounds; dummies were used in conjunction with cut scenes; camera angles were manipulated to the highest degree. Whether the methods of old or new, VFX was built upon and created for one sole purpose: to engage the viewers. It never fails to keep anyone’s attention when the plane bursts into flames, the dragon emerges from its cave, or a wonderland is introduced. VFX is tantamount to movie-making today. The industry would not survive without it.
IMPACTS ON SOCIETY?

IMPACTS ON SOCIETY? ____
Along with the major impact on the entertainment of the movie-making industry, VFX has become an art form in itself, pushing directors to bring their imagination to life. In Guardians of the Galaxy, for instance, our heroes arrive on the planet Ego, a lush and beautiful environment with saturated colors and an air of the unreal. It was a vision brought to life with visual effects, letting the audience, and broader society, see for themselves the boundless potential of human imagination.
