Modeling

Meet Grace

Grace is a senior here at Northview. You’ve probably seen her during half-time at one of the football games in the color guard. She plays the piano and also plays the oboe in band. And she occasionally likes to bake.

Aside from all of this, Grace models. She has done multiple shoots from prom shows to bridal shows and was part of ATL International Fashion Week.

Here’s how she did it…!

“At my old dance studio, my sister started modeling and I was like wow, I want to try that too. During the pandemic, I had some free time on my hands, so I joined a modeling class. They introduced me to a casting opportunity, and I got casted!”

“I think my favorite experience was honestly getting to try on all the different kinds of clothing. I got to try on like 26 prom dresses and also clothes of different cultures. I got to wear more asian style clothes but also african style clothes. As well as street wear and stuff. Its like outside of what I normally wear which is definitely not sweatpants and sweatshirts :)”

“You show up and you have to wear tight fitting clothes, they are usually black tight fitting clothes and you have to wear heels. Then they usually look at your runway walk and also your appearance to see if you are fit for whatever the designer is looking for. Because every designer has something different in mind. And ultimately yes, it’s kind of visual discrimination but that’s (a little of) what the industry is.”

“I got to meet my designer for the prom show cause she was like backstage and stuff but during casting I also met her. ATL International Week had different people at casting than from the designer. They had a preliminary round of casting and then you could actually go to the show and meet the designer and see what you are going to wear.”

“I think the prom show that I did was the most similar to what runway is most like. What happens is you have your own designated set of clothes or dresses that only you are going to wear and you have a rack. Basically what happens is you have a certain order and you go down the runway in that order. The minute you get off stage you take of the dress and put the next one on. You only get like a minute or 1-2 minutes. A really short amount of time to get the other dress on and then your back on the runway again and then you repeat that until the show is over.”

In Action!
