She currently serves as the President of Jewels 4 Jewels and a Vice President of our school’s National Arts Honor Society.
Outside of school, she leads a weekend volunteer program that provides art mentoring to younger students. Scroll to learn more about her favorite photography techniques and the thought processes behind her work!
“Thief”
One of her most distinct pieces is a photo with the subject burned. The setting is an aisle in the H-Mart closest to our school. It’s currently on frame in Northview’s main hallway.

I wanted to express consumerism. I also wanted to experiment with fire so I came up with burning the subject out of a supermarket background.

H-Mart is more accessible (a closer distance than other supermarkets like Publix and Kroger) and colorful so it would make a great background for my photo.

A: I was experimenting with chemicals, specifically how different chemicals affect photos so I put clear nail polish on the printed photo. The nail polish picked up the pigment, creating the effect seen in the photo.
Another one of Alyssa’s cool pieces features flowers on a dimmed background.

One of my favorite techniques has to be motion photography because of the way that you can define the subject by blurring the background through motion in your camera. Combined with light, it creates cool lighting.

It’s important to experiment and find your own style of photography so you can generate new ideas and ways that you prefer. Once you find a new style, you'll really like the photos you create.
