Meet Christie Peng (uin)
This is my second year on the Muse, and I’m looking forward to another great year with my fellow designers. I joined Lit Mag to explore art, writing, and graphic design and explore my creative side. After learning the ins-and-outs of Photoshop and InDesign, I plan to design merch, flyers, and create a webcomic about birds.
Drawing
I’ve loved drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. When I was a child I would always bring a sketchbook everywhere I went so I could capture the world around me with pens, pencils, and paint. I view art as a form of self expression, and I am always inspired by art from other creators, whether it be Vincent Van Gogh or friends. Whenever I look at works of art, I always wonder what the intent is behind every dab of paint, line, or detail.
Speech and Debate
Speech and Debate
Speech and Debate Speech and Debate
I’ve been doing speech and debate since 8th grade, and looking back, starting was one of the best decisions I made. My main events are Extemporaneous speaking (30-minutes to prepare a 7-min speech on current events), Impromptu speaking (2 minutes to prepare a 5-min speech on the spot), and sometimes, Congressional Debate.
Speech and debate has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone; it gave me a platform to express my voice. Public speaking is intimidating, but winning and losing gave me the incentive to push myself to research and constantly give practice speeches. Through competing at tournaments, I’ve made many friends in Georgia and in other states.
I also enjoy learning languages. This summer, I studied abroad in Turkey for 6 weeks. I attended Turkish classes at a local university, visited historical sites on weekends, and lived with a host family. Through this language exchange, I became better at speaking Turkish, gained two sisters, and even made a few native friends.
