SOPHIE CHANG
Hi! My name is Sophie, and I’m a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Muse.
This is my second year working on the literary magazine, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Scroll down to learn more about me & my hopes for this year :)
About Me!
In my free time, I love to hang out with my friends and family, bake (anything from classic chocolate chip cookies to a warm blueberry pie), go for a run, crochet, play with my puppy, take pictures, read, watch Gilmore Girls (for maybe the fourth time over), complete the New York Times daily puzzles, and listen to music! My favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, Tate McRae, Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, and One Direction. Outside of school, I compete on the Mock Trial team, participate in Student Council, work on political campaigns, pursue advocacy work for gun safety, lead Northview’s chapter of the National English Honor Society, sing for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes worship team, help out at my church, and play the piano. A couple of fun facts about me: I don’t like cheese, I’ve met the Vice President, and I’ve played piano for ten years!

The MUSE & I
I made the decision to join the Literary Magazine last year as a way to further my creativity and improve my writing skills. I wanted to a new way to demonstrate both my skills, as well as an outlet to communicate my personal emotions and life experiences. I’ve always loved writing and reading- Divergent by Veronica Roth remains my favorite book of all time.
I remember seeing the 2021 and 2022 issues from the MUSE, Concrete and Vestigial- and looking through all the intuitive, imaginative, and prolific pieces of artwork. I immediately wanted to be a part of it. This year, I’m excited for the ability to work with my new co-staffers to fabricate something that encapsulates Northview and its student body. I can’t wait to be able to see and work with all the creativity students showcase in their submissions. Getting to witness students freely express their individuality is the best part of school journalism- it’s what makes our school special. And that’s our goal- to have as many students submit as possible, so we can represent Northview in it’s true, candid essence. I’m also hoping to continue learning about online design- it’s been neat to see what InDesign & Photoshop can do so far. However, most of all, I’m grateful to be returning to the MUSE as a Co-Editor-in-Chief. The ability to mentor others and foster a passionate learning environment rich with individuals eager to dive deep into literature and art is incredible and I can’t wait to see what this year holds!
